ThecolonizationofBritainallovertheworldhasresultedintheevolvementofnewEnglishvarieties.NewEnglisheshavebecomeprideforsomeandshameforothers.Butonethingistrue,thatistheyhaveenrichedtheEnglishlanguagetoagreatextent.BesidestheabovementionedtwomainEnglishvarieties,therearemanyothernewEnglishesaroundtheworld,likeAustralianEnglish,IndianEnglish,SingaporeEnglish,SouthAfricanEnglishandCaribbeanEnglish.

Bythe1880s,immigrantswereoutnumberedbynative-bornAustraliansandAustralianEnglishwasingoodhealth.Now,AustralianEnglishhasdevelopedintoacolorfulandcharacteristicEnglishvariety.

InAsia,EnglishtravelledtoIndiafromthe16thcentury.EnglishwordswerespreadtoIndiaandmanywordsfromHindiflewbacktoEnglish,suchasbungalow,loot,thug,pundit,coolie,cashmere,pajamas,yoga.ThereisstilldisagreementabouttheroleEnglishplayedinIndia.Buttoday,thesignsofEnglishareeverywhereinIndiaandEnglishremainsamajorunifyingtongue.

EnglishhasbeenspokeninSingaporesincetheearly19thcentury.ButafteritsindependencefromBritainin1958,Englishhasremainedtheofficiallanguageofbusinessandgovernment.BecauseofitsabilitytounitediversifiedpopulationofChinese,MalaysandIndians,theeconomicpotentialofEnglishisparamount.

EnglishfirstarrivedinChinain1637whenBritishtradersreachedMacaoandGuangzhouInthe17thcentury,ChinesePidginEnglishoriginatedasalinguafrancafortradeincoastalareasinChina.Pidginusagebegantodeclineinthelate19thcenturywhenChineseandmissionaryschoolsbeganteachingStandardEnglish.In1982,thePeoplesRepublicofChinamadeEnglishthemainforeignlanguageineducation.
