evenwhenthetwosequencesareequallylong.

Intestsinvolving1，000participants，theteamswappedthesoundsin

theone-is-moreillusionformomentsofsilence，re-workingtheauditory

illusionintowhattheydubbedtheone-silence-is-moreillusion.Theyfound

thesameresults：Peoplethoughtonelongmomentofsilencewaslonger

thantwoshortmomentsofsilence.Othersilenceillusionsyieldedthesame

outcomesassoundillusions.

Participantswereaskedtofocusonthedinofbusyrestaurants，

markets，andtrainstations.Theythenlistenedforperiodswithinthose

audiotrackswhenallsoundstoppedabruptly，creatingbriefsilences.“The
