Aboutablockawayfrommyapartment,Iheardasoundbehindme.“AmIbeingfollowedbysomeone?”Ithoughtwithfear.Withmyheartpoppingwildlylikeadeer,Iturnedquickly,halfexpectingtoseesomeonewithaknifeoragun.Thestreetwasempty.AllIsawwasashiningstreetlight,whichwastellingthestrugglingstoriesofpeopleinSanFrancisco.Still,thenoisehadmademenervous,soIstartedtorunfaster.Eventually,Ireachedtheapartmentbuilding,tookoutthekey,unlockedthedoor,andrushedintotheroom.WhenIreachedintomypockettotakeoutthewallet,Isuddenlyrealizedwhatthenoisehadbeen.Ithadbeenmywalletfallingonthesidewalk.SuddenlyIwasntcoldortiredanymore.AllthemoneyIhadwasinthewallet,withoutwhichIwouldhavetostarvefortherestofthemonth.
