13.1.FREQUENCYTRANSLATIONWITHOUTMULTIPLICATIONAtechniqueforfrequencytranslatinganinputsequencebyfs/2bymerelymultiplyingasequenceby(–1)n=1,–1,1,–1,...,Frequencytranslationisoftencalledforindigitalsignalprocessingalgorithms.Therearesimpleschemesforinducingfrequencytranslationby1/2and1/4ofthesignalsequencesamplerate.13.1.1FrequencyTranslationbyfs/2Multiplyingatimedomainsignalsequencebythe(–1)nmixingsequenceisequivalenttomultiplyingthesignalsequencebyasampledcosinusoidwherethemixingsequencesamplesareshownasthedotsinFigure13-1(a).2

Anexamplethat(–1)nmixingArealx(n)signalsequencehaving32samplesofthesumofthreesinusoidswhose|X(m)|areasshowninFigure13-2(a)and(b).Multiplyingatimesignalbyour(–1)n,cosineshiftshalfitsspectralenergyupbyfs/2andhalfitsspectralenergydownby–fs/2.Wedidntreallyperformanyexplicitmultiplications,wemerelychangedthesignofalternatingx(n)samplestogetx1,–1(n).Multiplyingbythe(–1)nmixingsequenceflips(翻转)thepositivefrequencybandofX(m)[X(0)toX(16)]aboutthefs/4Hzpoint,andflipsthenegativefrequencybandofX(m)[X(17)toX(31)]aboutthe–fs/4Hzsample.Thisprocesscanbeusedtoinvertthespectraofrealsignals.4
