Hismum,akindandwisewoman,agreedthatitwasawonderfulidea.ShealsowantedtoteachDavidanimportantlessonaboutearningandgiving.So,theydiscussedaplantogether.“David,”hismumsaid,“Ithinkit’salovelyideatobuyshoesforGeorge.Buthowaboutthis?Icangiveyousomemoneyfordoingextrahouseworkaroundthehouse.Youcanearnthemoneyyouneedtobuytheshoes.Whatdoyouthink?“David’seyeslitup,andhesmiledwidely.“That’sagreatidea,Mum!Iwanttodoit.”

Davidbecameawhirlwind(旋风)ofactivityaroundthehouse.Hesweptthefloor,wateredtheplants,washedtheclothes,andevenhelpedhismumwiththedishes.HisdeterminationtoearnenoughmoneyforGeorge’sgiftshonethroughhiseveryaction.
