CanadianFrenchliteraturecanbetracedbacktothe17thcentury,anditsdevelopmenthistorycanbedividedintofourstages:theNewFranceperiod(1534-1763),theBritishcolonialperiod(1763-1867),thesecondhalfofthe19thcenturytothebeginningofthe20thcentury,andthe20thcentury.

DuringNewFranceperiod(1534-1763),thereareworksasJourneytoNorthAmerica(1702),DialoguebetweenBaronLaundangandBarbarians(1704),etc.?Thesematerialsrecordthelivinghabits,customsandcustomsofthelocalindigenousIndians,recordthelives,thoughtsandfeelingsoftheFrenchpioneers,anddescribethenaturalfeatures,astronomy,geography,animalsandplantsofNewFrance.
