Highupinatree,amotherbirdwasrestinginhernest.Shehad

justhatchedsixbabybirds,callednestlings.Thenestlingswerecovered

withsoftfluffydown.Theydidn’thaveflightfeathersyet,sotheyweren’t

readytoleavethenest.

Fiveofthebabybirdswerestrong.Theychirpedloudly.Theonethat

hadhatchedlast,though,wasnotstrongatall.MamaBirdcalledhim

XiaoLiu,orLittleSix.Hewasfrailandquiet.XiaoLiu’solderbrothers
