Thedetectors，soldforupto$42，000each，weresaidtobeabletofindsuchdangerousobjectsasbombsunderwaterandfromtheair.Butinfactthey“lackedanygroundinginscience”andwereofnouse.

McCormickhadtoldthecourtthathesoldhisdetectorstothepoliceinKenya，theprisonserviceinHongKong，thearmyinEgyptandthebordercontrolinThailand.
