ArecentphylogeneticanalysisoftheMyxinidaebasedonthe16SrRNAgeneresultedinsynonymizationofParamyxinewithEptatretus.Thiscreated

homonymyofParamyxinefernholmiwithEptatretusfernholmiandParamyxinewisneriwithEptatretuswisneri.Inordertoresolvethisnomenclatural

dilemma,wemadeamoreextensivephylogeneticassessmentoftheMyxinidaeandexaminedthenomenclatureofthefamily.Weused75sequences

(37ofwhichnewforthisstudy)ofa561bpfragmentofthe16SrRNAgene,representing33species,and72sequences(37ofwhichnewforthis

study)ofa687bpfragmentofthecytochromecoxidasesubunitI(COI)gene,representing23species,toreconstructthephylogenyofMyxinidae.
