Toidentifywhichcitiesareperformingwellandwhatlessonstheycanoffer,weconductedacomprehensiveanalysisof

morethan150citiesaroundtheworldandrankedthembytheirurbanmobilityperformance.Wecallthisframework

theBCGCityMobilityCompass.Ourapproachinvolved

assessingmorethan20KPIspercity,supplementedwithanin-depthsurveyofmorethan50cityleaders.Fromthat

analysis,wegroupedcitiesintosixarchetypes,basedon

suchfactorsastheirpopulationsizeanddensity,urban

layout,andmobilitypreferences,todeterminewhichcitiesarebuildingfuture-readymobilitysystems.(Seethe

Followingthatresearch,wedevelopedaglobalbenchmarkdesignedtoserveasabasisforgauginghowcitiesperformonthefactorsthatmattermosttocityleadersand

residentsalike:fast,sustainable,seamless,affordable,andaccessibletransport.Usingthistool,citiescanmakeplanstotransformtheirmobilitysystemsandmovepeoplemoreeffectively—todayandinthefuture.(See“ANew,On-
