1Hisacademicspecialtiesincludeindustrialresearchanddevelopment,intellectualproperty,andproductivityinmanufacturing.In1992,hewasappointedFrederickWilliamBeineckeProfessorofEconomics.Beforeingpresident,heservedaschairmanoftheEconomicsDepartmentanddeanofYale’sGraduateSchoolofArtsandSciences.

YaleCollegetheofficialnameofYaleUniversityfrom1718to1887,nowreferringtotheundergraduatepartoftheuniversity.Eachundergraduatestudentisassignedtooneof12residentialcolleges.
