AfterexperiencingtheBA(Hons.)Performance:TheatreatSaintJohnsCollege,York,IdecideditwasnotthecourseIwantedtodo,andthataPrimaryEducationdegreewouldbeabetterpreparationforteachingratherthanaoneyearPGCEcourse.Ihavealwaysheldaspirationstobecomeateacher,specificallyintheprimarysector.Since1999,IhaveheldvoluntaryworkexperienceplacementsatHolbrookPrimarySchool,amountingtotwoandahalftermsworkintotal.

AfterwithdrawingfromYork,IdecidedtotaketheopportunitytoextendmyexperienceinschoolsonavoluntarybasisatalocalSpecialSchool(BeaconHillSpecialSchool,Ipswich).Thisresultedinmybeingofferedafull-timepaidpositionasaSpecialSupportAssistant.Ihavefoundmyselfinspiredbythechallengeofencouragingtheseyoungpeopletorealisetheirpotentialandthishasfurthercementedmydecisiontobecomeateacher.Ihaveaparticularinterestindrama.DuringHighSchoolIwasamemberoftheWolseyYouthTheatreinIpswich.Thisinvolvedmeinvariousproductions;TheRailwayChildren,WatershipDown,AChristmasCarol,andRoaldDahlsBoy.IalsoparticipatedinHighSchoolproductions.Ithinkthattheseskillsareveryimportant,becauseIhavealreadyfoundthatdramacanbeausefuleducationaltool,especiallyintheearlystagesoflearning.

IhavecompletedmyDukeofEdinburghBronzeAward,whichIfoundagreatchallenge,butveryrewarding.IalsoholdGrade5inTrombone,Grade1cornet,andAward6intrampolining.
