AteamofresearchersfromtheUniversityofCaliforniaLosAngelesandtheUniversityofCaliforniaSanDiegohavediscoveredpositiveusesforAIandextracreditassignmentstohelpimprovestudentperformanceinintroductory(开端的)physicscourses,includingreducingtheimpactsofinequities,asfeaturedintheJune12,2025issueofthePhysicalReviewPhysicsEducationResearchJournal.

Thisstudyisoneofthefirsttoexploretheimpactonexamperformanceofofferinglargelanguagemodel(LLM)-basedAI-generatedhintsduringhomeworkassignmentsforanundergraduatephysicscourse.

Thestudyalsoaddressedinequitiesinstudentaccesstofoundationalmathematics,suchastrigonometry(三角学)andcalculus(微积分).Black,Hispanic/Latine,NativeAmericanstudents,andstudentsfromlow-incomebackgroundsarelesslikelytohavehadtheopportunitytotakeadvancedmathcoursesinhighschool,puttingthematadisadvantageforsuccessfulacademicperformanceincollegephysics.

Tomitigate(vt.使缓和,使减轻)thesedisparities,theresearchersimplementedatwo-pronged(双管齐下的)intervention:

1.Incentivized(鼓励)SupplementalMathAssignments:Extracreditwasscaledtoprovidegreatervaluetostudentswithlowerexamscores,encouragingparticipationandreinforcingfoundationalskills.

2.AI-GeneratedLearningSupportTools:Optionalhintsembeddedwithinphysicshomeworkassignmentsofferedpersonalizedassistance,reducingbarrierstohelp-seekingandpromotingindependentlearning.

Bothinterventions(干预)weregroundedinthesituatedexpectancy-valuetheoryofachievementmotivation:atheorythathypothesizesthatstudentsaremorelikelytoengageintaskstheyexpecttosucceedinandperceiveasvaluable.
