Thisstandardisissuedunderthe?xeddesignationE1390;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearof

originaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.A

superscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

1.Scope

sizeofthescreenshallallowtheusertoviewtheradiograph

withoutexcessiveglare.Iftheilluminatoristobeusedfor

viewingradiographsofvarioussizes,masksofvarioussizes

andcon?gurations,forexample,circularorrectangular,shall

beprovided.Alternately,anadjustableaperturemaybeused.

1.1Thisguideprovidestherecommendedminimumre-

quirementsforilluminatorsusedforviewingindustrial?lm

radiographsusingtransmittedlight.

1.2Theilluminatorhastoensurethesamesafetyfor

personnel,orusersofanyelectricapparatus,asspeci?edby

electricalstandardsapplicableinthecountryinwhichthe

illuminatorisused.

6.IlluminationRequirements3

6.1Luminance:

6.1.1Theluminance(orbrightness)ofthetransmittedlight

throughtheradiographshallnotbelessthan30cd/m2for?lm

densitiesequalorlessthan2.5,and10cd/m2for?lmdensities

greaterthan2.5.
