THE HEART AND GREAT VESSELS Overview Imaging diagnosis is sufficiently important to diagnose diseases of the heart and great vessels. It enables the inner details of the heart and great vessels to be observed and studied, such as the thickness of their wall, interatrial and interventricular septum, valve, and their function, physiological condition. At present some methods are usually used : X-ray, ultrasound, CT, radionuclides, MRI. It’s more accurate to diagnose cardiovascular diseases by associating all kinds of imaging techniques. X-ray diagnosis has significantly value. Cardiovascular habitus, pulsation and surrounding structures related to the heart can be observed in various directions. Left atrium and aorta to be observed should swallow barium. There are four positions of projections: posteroanterior position, right anterior oblique position, left anterior oblique position, left lateral position. Oblique position and lateral position are chosen according to state of an illness.
