Located in the south of the central depression area in the Songliao basin, changling sag is a fault-depression superimposed Cretaceous Basin. The Qingshankou Formation and Nenjiang Formation which distributed in the south of the sag, has been considered as the important source rocks in the study area. The oil’s characteristics there consist of low density, low viscosity, low sulfur and high wax content, which is usually called ’ three low and one high’. Those petroleum are typical nonmarine crude oil. Satisfied hydrocarbon is the principal Formation composition of the crude oil. The ratio of Satisfied hydrocarbon and aromatic hydricarbon is mostly greater than 2.0. Chromatographic analysis indicated that oil of Qingshankou Formation has an entire composition of normal paraffin hydrocarbons sepuence. Yaoyingtai and Suotu area are mostly signal pre-peak. Characteristics of steroid and terpenoid biomarker suggest that organic matter in the study area has a dual-source characteristic, which is terrestrial higher plants and low aquatic organisms. The depositional environment of crude oil in the southern changling sag can be defined as limnetic facies reducing environment in fresh-brackish water and compounding of land higher plant or aquatic rudimentary plant. In addition, the crude oil, which is mainly influenced by depth, has entered the stage of ripeness evolution. According to the study of terpenoid parameter, qingshankou group of crude oil comes mainly from the Qingshankou Formation period of hydrocarbon source rocks.
