论 文 摘 要 上海南站是上海的南大门，上海的“入海口”之一。随着 2008 年奥运会和 2010 年世界博览会的临近，南站作为城市文明与现代化的一个标志再次引起人 们的关注。上海南站作为一个标志性景观，其符号系统是如何表征和意义生产的， 这是本论文的焦点所在。 本文运用视觉表征理论，以霍尔表征理论的构成主义观点为切入点，按照寻 找符号、符号归纳、符号的解读和意义生产这一线索，分析上海南站的公共符号 系统，认为符号具有公众的、社会的特性，符号所组成的系统不是偶然的、任意 的、单一的，这个系统的意义生产有其历史语境和本土文化背景。视觉表征的运 作过程是把语言或者符号作为一个系统进行考察，要求人们在看与被看的辩证法 中把握符号所传递的意义。符号是意义得以产生和循环的最具优势的媒介，它组 建意义，维持参与者之间的对话，并建立起共享的文化信码，从而使参与者以大 致相同的方法解释世界。 关键词：上海南站 表征 视觉表征 公共符号系统 公益广告 5 ABSTRACT SHANGHAI RAILWAY STA(S.) is one of entry and the southern gateway to Shanghai. With the coming of 2008 Olympic Games and 2010 World Exposition, the South Station, as the symbol of urban civilization and modernization, draws our attention again. South station is acting as a sign of the landscape in Shanghai. This paper focuses on how the system of symbols of SHANGHAI RAILWAY STA(S.) characterized and produced its signification. Applying visual representation theory in this paper, we make constructivism point view of Hall’s representation theory as starting point. We analyze the public symbol system in SHANGHAI RAILWAY STA(S.) by searching for signs, summing up symbols, interpreting symbols and producing its meaning, and we think the symbols having public and social characteristics. Meanwhile, symbols system is not accidental, arbitrary, and single; while its significant production has its historical context and local cultural background. The operating procedure of Visual representation regards language or symbols as a system to explore, and it asks people to hold on the meaning conveyed by the sign, no matter the sign is being seen or people are seeing it. Symbols are the most advantage medi
