When the conventional statictical algorithms based on one- dim ensional histogram are used f or color segmentation some colors can be misclassif ied. To remedy this problem a new method for color segmentation based on tw o- dim ensional histogram is prosented which can be used to accurately segment and merge colors for color im ages in som e CAD sys- tems. The experimental results and some real applications show the eff ectiveness of the proposed m ethod . The m ethod is also used for color quantization of real color im ages.
