In thearticle，the auhtorpresentssomeargumentsconcern ingthe m‘‘ahtematicalmehtod issue’’in modem
economics．Theauthorshowswhysomereasons，accordingtowhichweshouldusemathematicsin(economic)
theory，arenotconvincing(theyareeventautologica1)，andwhatdoesmathematizationhavetodowith
arbitrarinessoftheo~hodoxeconomictheory．Theauhtoralsoshowswhyusinggamehteoryramahtematical
discipline)inmodemmicroeconomicsdoesnotyieldknowledgenadcorrectexplnaationofeconomicsituations

contrarytocommonopinion，thattherecnabenaexactandobjectivescienceofeconomicphenomenahtatdoesnot
necessarilyusemodem mathematicaltheoriesormehtodstoexplainthesephenomena．

Mathematizationofeconomictheorybeganinearnestintheninetiethcentury with economistssuchas
Walras,Jcvons,Cournot,Edgeworth．Inthecou1seofthetwentiethcentury(andespeciallyaftertheSecond
WorldWar)，economictheorywasbecomingincreasinglymathematized．Today,usingmathematicalmethods
toexplaineconomicphenomenaisgenerallytakenforgranted．Yetdespitethisobviousness，itseemsthatthe
questionofmahtematicalmethodin~economictheory stillhasnotbeenentirelyandconvincinglyresolved．
