Experiment three: Metal Corrosion Kang Wanli One. Experimental purposes 1．To master one method of measuring the corrosion rate of steel（losing mass method）. 2．To understand the inhibition mechanisms of corrosion inhibitor. Equipments and chemicals 1．Instruments and materials Electronic balance（precision 0.0001g）、50ml stopple calibration test tube、5ml measuring cylinder、vernier caliper、infrared drying box、tweezers、test tube support、steel sheet、sand paper、absorbent cotton、filter paper. 2．Chemicals Hydrochloric acid、formaldehyde、 butynediol、acetone、alcohol. 1．Wash away the the oil stain on the coupon by 1:1 acetone–alcohol solution，then put coupon on the filter paper and put them into infrared drying box for drying, then weigh it after cooling to room temperature. 2．Add 10% hydrochloric acid 30ml to each of four 50ml test tubes，then add the followings separately to each test tube： Distilled water 2ml、formaldehyde with a mass fraction of 0.125 2ml、butynediol with a mass fraction of 0.125 2ml、both of formaldehyde and butynediol with a mass fraction of 0.125 1ml Put the disposed coupon carefully by tweezers into the test tube after shaking it evenly，then observe and record the reaction phenomenen. 3．Half an hour later, firstly wash the coupon by water and absorb water by filter paper, then wash it by 1:1 acetone–alcohol solutions, then dry it and weigh it.
