[Abstract] Objective Toevaluatetheroleofsusceptibiht)r-weightedimaging(SWI)inthedifferentialdiagnosisofmultiple
system atrophv (MSA)andidiopathicParkinsondisease(IPD)．Methods Axial3mm thickFSET2W Iand3D SW1were
performedatthelevelofstriatum in17patientswithMSA and19patientswithIPD byusinga3．0T M Rscanner．Thesig—
naldropatglobuspallidusandputamenontwosequenceswereevaluatedbytwoneuroradiolgistswhodidnotknow theclini—
calfeaturesofthepatients．A hypointensityin thedorsolateralputamenequaltoorlowerthan thatinglobuspalliduswas
takenintoaccountaSthemainc1uetodifferentiatethetwodiseases．Chi—squaretestwasusedtocompareSWIfindingswith
FSE T2WIfindingsin thediagnosisofMSA．ResuRs Abnormalputaminalhypointensitywasfoundin15of17patients
withMSA (88．2 sensitivity)onSWI，whileonly 11MSA patientsshowedabnormalputaminalhypointensityonFSE
T2WI(64．7 sensitivity)．Threeof19patientswithIPD showedabnormalputaminalhypointensity(84．2 specificity)on
SWI。whileonly1IPDpatientshowedabnormalputaminalhypointensity(94．7 specificity)onFSET2WI．Althoughthere
wasnostatisticalsignificanceindetectionofabnormalputaminalhypointensitybetweenSW Iandthin—sliceFSET2W I(P一
