JournalofReproduction＆Contraception http：llwww．RandC．cn 2009Sep．；20(3)：169·182 randc@sippr．stc．sh．cn ReproductiveandSexualHealthofChineseM igrants Jian—fangZHOU ，JoannaEM antell，Xiao—meiRU4 J．NanjingUniversity,Nanjing210093，China 2．NanjingCollegeforPopulationProgramManagement,Nanjing210042，Chnia 3．AIDSResearchCenterinColumbiaUniversity,NY10032．U．s． 4．NationalPopulationandFamilyPlanningCommission,Beijing100088,China ObjectiveToinvestigatethereproductiveandsexualhealthsituation，including knowledge，attitudes，andbehaviors，amongapopulation-basedsampleofinternal migrantworkersinChina． MethodsAcross·s·ectionalsurveyof4900rural—-to--urbanmigrantsin6provincesof Chinawasconducted．Participantscompleteda30一rainsemi—structuredquestionnaire aboutcontraceptivepractices，sexualbehavior,andHIV-relatedknowledge． ResultsMigrantslackedknowledgeofreproductiveandsexualhealthissues．Among thosewhohadheardanysexuallytransmittedinfections(STIs)，on79．1％，46,2％， 86．1％，14．％and82．2％，respectiveyl,knewthatgonorrhea，condyloma，syphilis， chancroid，andAIDSwereSTIs．Aboutthree—quartersofparticipantshadnotused anycontraceptivemethodatsexualdebut．Amongcurrentusersofcontraceptive methods．85．％indicatedthattheyweresatisfiedwiththemethod．Beforeadoptionof acontraceptivemethod,46,6％ofthemigrantworkerswereunawareoftheadvantages／ dtsnavnntngesofthemethodand75．3％ hadnoknowledgeof emergency contraception．Nearlyone—quarter(23．％Jreportedthat hadpremaritalsex．Among migrantswhoweresexuallyactiveonemonthpriortothesurvey,only14．D％ reported thatthe hadusedcondoms． Conclusion The limitedsexualand reproductivehealthknowledgeand unmet reproductivehealthservicesofmigrrantworkersinChinaunderscorehteneedfo，．a comprehensivepackageofsexualandreproductivehealthinterventionsthatcombine cognitiveandbehavioralskillstrainingandtargetbothmigrantsandhealthcareproviders． Keywords：migrnats；contraception；sexualbehavio
