Then ,old English had developed on the island itself until the Norman Conquest in 1066. Anglo—Saxon had re—established itself as the language of the upper classes ,as English. The Norman had occupied the England for 3 hundred years ,but their language was beat by English. The language of British Empire The establishment of colonies, in American ,Australia, Africa and India ,was important in the development of English in 17th and 18th centuries. English was taken to the new spaces by English speakers . Then the language was wide spread ,but English also changed in different places. For example , American English speech developed its own rhythms and vigor ,found or adapted special words for its own need. We can see the difference between the language of Old World and New World in tomato and colour／color. The language of the world English ,as a world language ,does not only change among the English speakers, but also from the learners ,from different background ,of it. The changes took place in writing , the enlargement of vocabulary and grammar. The uses of infinitive and “empty” verbs are the great changes in grammar. We said “It is our duty of studying well.”, but we would like to say “It is our duty to study well.” now. We said “let us drink.” ,but we would like to say “let us to have a drink .” now.
