Detailed discussion is then presented on several controversial problems existing in the UHV AC transmission field, including: knowledge about 1 insulation characteristics of gas interval, selection of an appropriate voltage level, effective prevention measures for abnormal lightning trip-out percentage, application of composite [1-6] insulators in the prevention of dirty flashover, control of environmental influence caused by UHV transmission lines and substations, superiority of UHV in economy and relationship between UHV AC transmission and DC transmission.
