Academic Affairs Office， Anhui Medical University，Hefei 230032，China 【Abstract】Objective To realize the interest, function, purpose and current situation of medical undergraduates to be engaged in scientific research, in order to provide the reference for making research training programs for them. Methods Using self-designed questionnaire for anonymous surveys, 2742 college students were investigated with the method of cluster random sampling. Results 2476 questionnaires were collected for 2742 students, recycling efficient rate was 90.3%. The survey results showed that 2207 students would exercise their own ability and realize their own values when asked the purpose of participating in scientific research; 2211（89.3%） respondents were not engaged in scientific research undertaken by teachers or doctors; 1942（78.4%）respondents were willing to take part in extracurricular scientific activity; On how to solve the problem, 63(55.3%) respondents asked the teacher for help, when 114 respondents replying; 969(39.1%) respondents think junior year is the best time to participate in scientific research. Conclusions Medical undergraduates are lack of the opportunity of engaging in scientific research .
