Ab str act: One of m ajor d ifficu lties in mi p lem enting the Schedu le Free R olling ( SFR lies in the pro2
file and flatness con tro.l There have been quite a few works reported, in wh ich the profile and flatness
con trol is tak ing into accoun ,t addressing on optmi a l load distribution of hot strip m ills. H owever, as2
sumption s on the design of the object ive function s in these work s degrade their practicab ility. In th is
p ap er, based on comprehen sive con sideration s of in fluentia l factors inc lud ing sp ec ial technology in
SFR and the shape setup, amodel for optmi a l load distribution in SFR of hot stripm ills is estab lished,
and smi u lated annealing genetic algorithm is app lied for the optmi izat ion process. The practical test on
