2005 68 w035 * ( 300072) (SPPES)48.9% SPPES -3 -2 48.9% SPPES 10 10 S/cm Nafion115 The Preparation and Properties of Sulfonated Poly(phthalazinone ether sulfone) * Deng Huining, Xu Li, Wang Yuxin (State Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering Research Center, School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Tianjin University, Tianjin 300072) Abstract Sulfonated Poly(phthalazinone ether sulfone) (SPPES) with various sulfonation degree were synthesized by reaction of Poly(phthalazinone ether sulfone) (PPES) with mixtures of fuming sulfuric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid as sulfonating agent. Their proton conductivity and methanol permeability as a function of the sulfonation degree were investigated. For 48.9% degree of sulfonation, the proton conductivity was about 10-3~10-2S/cm at all the temperatures of the tested range. The methanol permeability of the 48.9% degree of sulfonation SPPES membrane is about one order of magnitude lower compared with that of Nafion115 membrane. Because of its high conductivity and low methanol permeability, SPPES membrane appears to be an excellent candidate for use in DMFC application.
