Aomori Industrial Research Center (AIRC), 4 - 11-6 Dain-i tonyacho, Aomori 030 -0113, Japan) Ab stract:This paper briefly introduced theories and algorithms of two spreadmodels commonly used for forest fire, namely contiguous cellularmodel andwave propagationmodel. The advantages and disadvantagesof the former as a discretemodel and the latter as a continuousmode,l were summarized system atically. And the effects of these ad- vantages and disadvantages on the performance such as precision, complexity, adaptability, real tmi e, calculation reliability and influence on whole smi ulation system etc., were analyzed in the paper. Itwas discovered through contrast that two models were strongly complemented each other in advantages and lmi itations of performance. Therefore, in order to improve the perform ance of spread simulation and avoid restriction of fire behavior or geo- graphicalelements, it is necessary to integrate both based on computer techniques, so that they can assemble strong points each others to offset theirweakness.
