Dynamic characteristic of power source in parallel hybrid hydraulic
excavator

Abstract: T he working condition property of the hydraulic excavator was analyzed based on the 15 second
typical operating cycle. The mathematical model of power source in parallel hybrid hydraulic excavator was
established. An optimal set of power source parameters in parallel hybrid hydraulic excavator was pro
posed. Then the generator/ motor efficiencies of the space vector pulse width modulation ( SVPWM)con
trolled permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) and the charge/ discharge efficiencies of the NiMH
battery were analyzed under the same circumstance as well as the dynamic response characteristic including
motor speed, motor torque and battery SOC. Simulation results show that the optimal set of power source
in powertrain can satisfy the requirement of power and energy transformation efficiency for hydraulic exca
vator, and help achieve better fuel consumption with hybrid configuration. urthermore the battery system
was only treated as a media to transform energy. T he more energysaving and higher efficient control for
the hydraulic excavator was achieved.
