Jiangxi College of TCM ABSTRACT：Objective: To classify subjective symptoms of patients with primary hypertension, as well as to study the relationship between symptom collection and body weight, waist circumference, course of disease, blood fat. Methods: This study is carried out in 500 patients with primary hypertension in agreement with WHO/ISH diagnostic criteria(2003) of hypertension. All the patients are diagnosed or treated by clinic service of hypertension department of Fuwai Hospital affiliated to China Academy of Medical Sciences. The survey is designed following international standard, which consists of two parts, medical examination and questionnaire. The medical examination includes body height, body weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, blood pressure, heart rate, etc. The questionnaire includes common conditions, smoking and drinking, hypertensive disease history, related disease history, family history, blood fat(TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C), and common symptoms such as dreamful sleep, insomnia, palpitation, chest distress, chest pain, short breath and asthenia, physical fatigue, dizziness, and headache. Results: Nine main subjective symptoms are analyzed with factor analysis methods, and 4 correlation factors are acquired from the 9 symptoms. The symptoms in one correlation factor are referred to as one symptom group, and a symptom group is similar to syndrome in Chinese Medicine theory.
