Vocabulary Coupon: a piece of paper for getting items free or at a reduced price On sale: reduced in price To rent: to pay a fixed amount for the use of something Full price: the normal cost of an item Bargain: something sold for a price that is lower than usual or lower than its value Souvenir: an item that reminds you of a place or an event Pottery: dishes, bowls, and other objects made for baked clay Group work Situations: you are going to buy a piece of clothing, a book, and a camera, rank the ways to save money when buying it. What other ways can you save money? Imagine that a friend from abroad is visiting you and wants to buy some souvenirs. Suggest a souvenir for each of these people: his mother, father, best friend, his older sister or brother and his coworker. Listening practice Now you listen to three people talking about how they save money. Listen carefully because each speaker will mention at least two thing that they do to save money. Pair work Work with your partner as to P23 of the textbook and find out whether the items in Part A are more expensive or less expensive in the USA? Discuss with your partner then check the price. How much money do you spend for a month? Do you have any good ways to save money to live on the campus? Assignment Interview some people and find out the good ways to save money, then share your information with your classmates next time in class.
