The results showed that there was slight variation in maturing process among different varieties. During maturing, the thickness of leaf, length of palisade cells increased gradually and then decreased, and the spacing of leaf increased gradually; the stoma structure remained stable, but its function decreased during maturing, and the number of chloroplast in guard cells decreased. Therefore, the loose degree of leaves with proper maturity when harvested was optium, which could improve flue-cured tobacco quality.
