The te st re su lts for slender co lum n s show that the load bearing ca p acitie s and m axim um disp lacem en t ratio ( the ratio of disp lacem en t to the in itial length at p eak load) of the co lum n decrea se s a s slenderne ss ratio, determ ined a s the ratio of the length to diam eter, increa se s. The te st re su lts for eccen trically loaded co lum n s show that when the slenderne ss ratio is kep t con stan t, the load bear ing cap acity and m axim um strain decrea se a s the eccen tricity ratio increa se s. The form u la for calcu lating the load bearing cap acitie s of slender co lum n s and the eccen trically loaded co lum n s are p re sen ted .
