_______________________________________________________________________________ Theoretical Calculation of Third Harmonic Generation in Gas-filled Cylinder Capillary by Femto-second Laser Pulses  B.Z.Chen and Z.Q.Huang   Institute of Low Energy Nuclear Physics, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875,China Abstract The theoretical calculation of the first experimental results about third harmonic generation in gas-filled waveguide by the femto-second laser pulses is proposed. It is found that the walk-off and phase modulation exert an important effect on the pressure-signal curve, the ratio of signal intensities in different modes and the efficiency of the third harmonic generation. It is also found that the calculation result of the third harmonic generation efficiency approaches the corresponding experimental result. The development of practical coherent light sources in the ultraviolet (UV) and extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) range is among the most important and most long standing problems in laser physics. In spite of impressive progress in this field, low-cost, high-efficient and easy-to-operate sources are still not 1 available. The first experiments on frequency up-conversion through the third harmonic generation in gas-filled capillary by fs pulses have been reported 2,3 .
