Abstract T he w estern flow er thrips F rankliniella occid entalis ( ergande) is an important agricultural pest and
w orld-w ide distributed in 69 countries and areas. T he w est ern flow er t hrips transmits Tosp ovirus in a persistent
manner, and the economic losses caused by the virus are much more severe than that by it self. Thus, many research-
ers have studied the western flow er thrips and Tosp ovirus. This paper summarized the latest advances in the virus
species transmitted by t he w estern flow er thrips, the structure of Tosp ovirus and the mechanisms of virus transmis-
sion.
