《香奁集》佳人形象研究 Abstract In this paper, the author first makes an introduction of history on female beauty from “The Book of Poetry”, “The Poetry of the South”, and “New Songs from a Jade Terrace ”,to “Xiang Lian Ji” and “Hua Jian Ji”. The introduction reveals the changes of beauty portrays in the literary works from image to appearance and the significance of the changes on the perspectives of literature and feminine value. In this literary setting, the paper approaches from respectives of the beauty, love, and desire in Han Wo’s “Xiang Lian Ji”, the first poetry collection on sex in Chinese poetry history. The author analyses in details the beauty images in the text and makes comparisons vertically and horizontally. In vertical approach, the paper compares the typical beauty images between the public one’s in Han’s “Xiang Lian Ji” and those in “New Songs from a Jade Terrace” and “Hua Jian Ji” from the status, temperament, interests, appearance and so on. In horizontal approach, she makes the comparison of beauties with those in the poets by Li Shangyin, Wen Tingyun, Du Mu, and Wei Zhuang from their status, interests , attitudes on sex, love proportion, emotional theme and so on. The author applies induction, deduction and analysis as her vehicles to make multi-respective analysis and to highlight the uniqueness and progressiveness of the beauties in “Xiang Lian Ji”. From the following angles: the freedom flavor, the expression and pursuit of sexy beauty, the respect and liberation of the love and desire and the melancholy poetic meaning, the author emphasizes the significance of the beauty image in “Xiang Lian Ji”on both literature angle and feminine angle.
