S chool of M aterial Science and Engin eering , Chongqing Instit ute of T echnology , Chongqing 400050, China) Abstract: T his p ap er intro duces the present situation of the stu dy of therm al b arrier coatings and it s m ain f ailure f orm , and describes t he f orm ation of ther m al stress influ encing the lif etim e of coatings and the counterm easures to solve the problem . By m ean s of f inite elem ent m ethod, the paper studies the therm al str ess of coatings caused by t he inconsisten cy of therm al exp an sion co eff icient s betw een the coatings and the base m aterials under t he condition of thermo - im pact .
