INTRODUCE
1. Demonstrate “temperature” with a real thermometer. Put the thermometer in a cup of cold water and then a cup of hot water as I say phrases such as:
The water is hot/ cold.
What’s the temperature of the water?
What’s the temperature? It’s _____ degrees.
Demonstrate “circle,” “line,” “square,” “triangle” and “shapes” with the poster of shapes.
USE THE STUDENT BOOK AND AUDIOTAPE
PRACTICE
Play “Tic-Tac-Toe” to practice the new vocabulary. Before I start, draw simple thermometers, each with an appropriate temperature marked off with a number, beside each “window” on the blackboard. Use questions and commands such as:
Draw a ___ (shape).
Look at the windows on the blackboard
The weather is _______( weather adjective).
What’s the temperature?
Look at the windows on the blackboard. It’s _____degrees. How’s the weather?
Play “Go Fish” with the students’ flashcards for shapes.
