Abstract:T his paper analyzes the usage of the word 躾 in the context of
Japanese corporate culture. The connotation of the w ord has gone far beyond its
original meaning in daily life. In Japans business circle, 躾 is attached great im-
portance to, regarded as an important cornerstone for business affairs, and 躾 is
even seen as a decisive factor for the success of business activities.
