T: In this class, we’ll read a story. Do you like a story?
Ss: Yes, we do.
T: Many of you read a lot of books, most of which are story books. What should we pay attention to when we read a story? Please turn to Page 84 and read the tips please.
(After the students read the tips.)
T: Now please turn to Page 83. Read the story and then I’ll ask you some questions.
(Teacher gives the students enough time to read the story. After the students read it, teacher begins to ask them some questions.)
T: What are the main characters in the story?
S1: They are Tom and Pete.
T: Where were Tom and Pete in the story?
S2: They were in a church. The church had many secret rooms. They were now before a statue. The statue stood in front of the door to a secret room. They wanted to go into the room.
T: What did they hear when they were in front of the statue?
S3: They heard a noise. It sounded like a woman crying.
T: What did they want to do?
S4: They wanted to find out what was inside the room.
T: When did the story happen?
S6: I don’t know. I didn’t find the time when they were in the church. Perhaps the story didn’t tell us.
