Abs tract: By using the comm ercia l softw are CFX and the VOF m ethod fo r the free surface, num eri
ca l smi u lation of the v iscous freesurface flow around a m ode l test trmi aran w as perform ed and com
parisons w ere m ade betw een smi ulation and test. T hen v iscou s freesurface flow around trmi arans in
m odel scale w ith n ine different side hu ll position configurations w as num erica lly smi ulated in the
sam e w ay. T he ca lculated resistance results w ere obtained, and the distribution o f resistance curve
re lating the arrangem en t o f side hu ll to the ship speed w as invest igated. T hat is the variat ions o f lon
g itudina l posit ion of the side hu ll relative to the m a in hull have a greater mi pact on the tr mi aran re
sistance perform ance in still w ater. W hen the side hull is kept in a sam e transverse locat ion and
placed closer to the stern o f the m ain hu ll in long itudinal d irection, it is better fo r trmi aran resistance
perform ance in h igher speed. In conclu sion, one of the n ine side hull configurat ions w as sing led out
