Targetting Individual Characteristics of Managers as a Measure to Improve Software Training: A Hong Kong Focus Jessica Chiu Department of Information Systems City University of Hong Kong Tat Chee Avenue Kowloon, Hong Kong Abstract Despite advances in information technology and its proliferation into industry, one of the major obstacles for the integration of PC technology into offices has been the lack of appropriate training for managers on the best way to make productive use of the hardware and software systems. The objective of this research is to investigate the individual characteristics of managers leading to different satisfaction levels. This study is based on factors identified in previous studies conducted in Hong Kong on software training and levels of utilization and satisfaction from a users perspective. There exists unharnessed potential in designing computer software training courses to managers needs. As a specific group whose resources and function within the company are particularly valuable, complacency towards their requirements may lead to lowered competitiveness of the organization. Previous studies have shown that managerial satisfaction varies across geographical locations. As Hong Kong rapidly advances towards being a high income location, the justification for enhancing managerial effectiveness in the workplace through computerization is a pressing concern. 1 1.
