Foreign Direct Investment is at the core of Greece’s development agenda, with the country’s FDI policy focusing on creating a friendly environment for foreign investors, and attracting and facilitating their presence in Greece, to achieve the best use of the country’s resources in capitalising on its comparative advantages. Greece provides a number of attractive incentives, such as grants and tax allowances for investors, a well a highly developed infrastructure, highly educated and mostly bilingual human capital, special arrangements for strategic investments, industrial clusters to support business activity, alow cost environment within the Eurozone, and simple and quick establishment of new companies. As a member of the European Union (EU) and the Eurozone, Greece offers investors immediate access to a very large market with great potential, as well as a stable currency and institutional framework. Its unique geographical position makes the country a gateway for investors, to Europe and to the entire Mediterranean and the Black Sea area. Greece has undergone a major overhaul of its economy. The fiscal imbalances of the past led the country to embark on a trilateral mechanism of financial support in 2010 and the main obstacles have been successfully overcome, generating additional opportunities for foreign investors. FDI policy in Greece promotes further liberalisation of closed professions, privatisations, utilisation of public property and Public-Private-Partnerships.
