In 1998, CIESIN relocated from its original home in Michigan to become part of Columbia University’s Earth Institute. CIESIN focuses on applying state-of-the-art information technology (e.g., computer science, data archiving, geographic information systems, and remote sensing) to interdisciplinary problems at the intersection of human and environmental systems.
