Revolutionary sacred places, such as Jinggangshan in Jiangxi Province, Yanan in Shaanxi Province and Xibaipo in Hebei Province have once again become booming tourist attractions for domestic travellers. While sightseeing in these sacred places, most of which are located among mountains or along rivers, ordinary Chinese can think about Chinas red history from 1921 when the Communist Party of China was formed, until 1949 when the Peoples Republic of China was founded. This tourism trend perfectly combines patriotic education with recreation The National Red Tourism Development Plan for the 2004-10 period has set up 12 major red tourism areas along with 30 red tourism routes, which expect to receive 150 million visitors in the years, with an income totalling 38 billion yuan (US$4.58 billion). Along a red tourism route, according to the plan, there must be revolutionary historical sites or references to famous revolutionary historical figures. Also, transport must be convenient and tourism facilities, such as hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops, must be adequate.
