I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to a number
of people who have offered me much help with my thesis. I am particularly grateful to
Professor Xing, my supervisor, for his warm-heart, expert supervision and insightful
suggestions. He has also ushered me into the world of cognitive linguistics, and at the
same time intrigued my interest in the field. It is he who has selflessly imparted his
professional knowledge to me and provided me with materials of cognitive linguistics
and related fields.
I am also indebted to all the professors and teachers who have taught me
during my postgraduate studies. Without their inspiring lectures, I would never have
had the ability to write the thesis.
I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to teachers in library for
their kind help. Last but not least, hearty thanks should be conveyed to all the authors
from whom I have cited in this thesis.
Finally, I want to express my sincere gratitude to my mother and friends whose
constant encouragement and assistance have helped me overcome many difficulties in
the course of the study.
