JoumalofUS-ChinaPublicAdministration,ISSN 1548-6591 April2014,Vo1.11,No.4,375-384 N 瞄 ResearchontheRelationshipAmongIncome,Education,and RisingM edicalExpenditureinShanghai ShenShiyong,XuJing,ZhangJianming ShanghaiUniversityofEngineeringScience,Shanghai,China Basedonthestatisticscomingfrom theChinaStatisticalYearbookandtheShanghaiStatisticalYearbookrfom 1978to2011,theauthorsexploittheinternalrelationshipsofthethreevariablesofincome,education,andmedical expensesbyconstructingthemodelofvectorautoregressivemodel(VAR).Theresultsshow thattheincome elasticity ofmedicalexpensesisnegative.Thereareinverserelationshipbetween risingmedicalexpensesand income,inthelongterm ,moremedicalexpensesmeanbadhealthandgetlessincome,meanwhiletheeducation elasticityofmedicalexpensesis0.15,indicatingthateducationhaspositivelybutslowlycorrelatedwithgrowthof medicalexpenses.Risingmedicalexpensesonincomechnages,thereisalong-term impactofincomeonmedical expenses,theincreaseinrevenuetostimulatehealthydemna d,drivenbyrisinghealthcarecosts,indicatesthatafter themarket-orientedhealthcarereform ,healthcarecommoditiesareflexible.
