plus Bayesian adjustment Usual estimates x% likely limits (±) error (%) Likely limits for belief of true value must be in absolute units, not a percent of best guess Keep the numbers in plum color as an example to guide you. Put your numbers in the blank spaces underneath. They will appear in blue. Reference: Hopkins WG (2000). Precision of the estimate of a subjects true value, with Bayesian adjustment (Excel spreadsheet). In: A new view of statistics. sportsci.org: Internet Society for Sport Science, sportsci.org/resource/stats/xprecisionsubject.xls Bayesian adjustment is a quantitative method for taking into account your prior belief about the subjects true value. The results you want are in red. Dont try to change black numbers in the cells with a grey background. You have to make a best guess about the subjects true value, plus its likely limits (which express your uncertainty in your guess). Insert a reference value for likelihoods when you want the likelihood that your subjects true value is greater than or less than a reference value. Copy this row and Insert Copied Cells underneath when you have more than one lot of data to process. Likely limits may appear with more decimal places than necessary for the given values. Make sure you express your likely limits with the same number of decimal places or significant digits as your original value. Example (from the first set of cells below): before you measured the subject, you believed the true value was 43, with 95% likely limits of ±3. That is, you were 95% sure (would be willing to bet at odds of 19:1) that the true value was between 40 and 46. best guess value for likelihoods Belief about subjects true value true value Data from validity study predicted prediction If the typical error is not given, use SD*root(1 - r^2), where SD is the standard deviation of the criterion variable and r is the correlation coefficient. trials Data from reliability study 67% (2:1) Find the number of subjects
