If the “overarching vision is to restore Tasmania’s energy advantage”, I would urge you NOT to make the same mistakes that Victoria has made in introducing their AMI. From a cost perspective, with an initial estimate of $800,000,000 this program has blown out to a $2.3 billion disaster, with NO advantages to the consumer. I would also bring to your attention a growing problem related to this smart grid technology that is being overlooked here in Victoria. Since the rollout of smart meters, many hundreds of people have reported experiencing adverse health symptoms from the smart meters’ pulsing microwave transmissions. I am one such person whose whole life has been completely ruined since I have become sensitised and developed EHS. Many letters to Government authorities have been ignored or handballed on to another department. It appears that all of these departmental bodies deem ARPANSA as the responsible authority when it comes to RF EMR, smart meters and health effects. In their correspondence to me they state that “the current scientific evidence does not support your belief that low level RF EMR emitted from smart meters is likely to cause any health effects” They have yet to provide me with any current scientific studies for chronic exposure to smart meters that show no health effects on human populations, both in the short term and the long term. I would also like to direct you to /docs/SMCS.pdf, which acknowledges a current study that proves otherwise.
