ABSTRACT Die-casting has wide applications in automobile, tractor, electronic instrument, telecom, aviation etc. In die-casting production, die-casting tool, die-casting alloy and die-casting die are the three main elements of die -casting. Die-casting die is the main technique tool, and filling die with high pressure and high speed is the significant character of die-casting. During die-casting production the filling time of liquid metal is very short, which falls between 0.01 and 0.2 second, even to several milliseconds. So the design and the manufacture of die -casting die are very important. During the design of die -casting die, it must be considered that castings corresponding to the technical requirements of geometry shape, dimensional precision, mechanics property and surface quality can be produced with reasonable die struc ture and low cost. Hence, die design has great technical difficulty. To improve the design quality of die-casting die and reduce the cycle of the design and manufacture, integrating CAD/CAE is the only way. Die is a kind of product which conceptual design is very important. The quality of conceptual design of product is the key factor to decide the final quality of product, the market competitiveness and the profit of corporation. In this paper, the information descriptions of die-casting, die-casting process and die are analyzed, and an investigation is made on the conceptual design system of die-casting based on case reasoning.
